About This Course

Introduction to Mobile Robotics is a foundational course that explores the principles, technologies, and algorithms used in designing and controlling autonomous mobile robots. The course introduces students to robot locomotion, sensing, perception, navigation, and decision-making, enabling robots to move intelligently in real-world environments. It covers key topics such as kinematics, path planning, mapping, localization, and control strategies, along with hands-on exposure to simulation tools and practical robotic platforms. By the end of the course, students gain a solid understanding of how mobile robots operate, how they interact with their surroundings, and how they are applied in fields such as industrial automation, healthcare, defense, agriculture, and smart transportation.

Requirements

Basics of Control Systems, Classical Physics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Linear Algebra.

Course Staff

Dr. Lekshmi M S is an accomplished academic and researcher in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, specializing in gas sensor technology, semiconductor materials, and embedded system-based signal processing. She received her Ph.D. from NIT Calicut, where her research focused on surface-activated NiO acetone gas sensors for diabetes detection. With extensive teaching and research experience, she has worked on analog/digital system simulation, FPGA-based ADC architectures, instrumentation amplifier design, and sensor data analysis.

Dr. Lekshmi is passionate about interdisciplinary technologies, including mobile robotics, biomedical instrumentation, and thermoelectric energy harvesting. She has participated in prestigious national programs such as the Women in Space Leadership Program (DST–UKIERI) and actively engages in innovation-driven academic initiatives, FDPs, and student project mentoring. Her professional interests also include AI and intelligent sensing systems, flexible electronics, and wearable healthcare.
